MMQG Charity Committee

Hello MMQG !  Our charity committee is up and running!  The committee met for the first time prior to the May Guild meeting in the Textile Center Library.  We would like to let you know our current focus, ask for some assistance and thank you in advance for sharing our skills with others.  If we all contribute a small amount, we can be very successful! If anyone else would like to join our group, you are welcome!

Our current focus is to complete a few lap sized quilts for donation this fall. We developed a list of potential recipient populations at the committee meeting and added to the list during our general meeting.  Our hope is to select populations that are currently underserved.  If you have a group or agency you would like to add to our list, please contact Jan at janquilter (at) outlook (dot) com

We are asking for your assistance as many hands will result in greater success.   Donations of quilt blocks, fabric backs or bindings would be appreciated.  We have two requests for blocks:

1.  Please check out http://www.craftbuds.com/swap-low-volume-plus-blocks/   Lindsay Conner has granted permission for us to reference her tutorial for low volume plus blocks. We would like to ask each guild member to make one or two blocks to donate by the end of September.  At that time we hope to have a total of 90 blocks to make lap quilts. We are requesting gender neutral fabrics for the plus section and either light value or low volume for the background.  Our goal is to donate more masculine / teen quilts as they are the type least donated.

2.  If you have orphan blocks from testing a pattern, making too many or when a block just did not work out, we will gladly take them off your hands!  We will then combine the blocks to create more donation quilts. Any blocks, colors, or sizes would be welcome!

Blocks or donations can be turned in at any meeting.  We will have a charity donation table available at meetings starting in June.  If you are unable to attend a meeting but have donation items, please send Jan a Facebook message and receive a mailing address in response.

As our Charity Committee continues to function, we will expand our ideas, requests and donations.

Please feel free to participate in whatever fits your time and schedule. Thank you so much!

  1. $9 Million Fraud Judgment Against Antony Gordon In Federal Court

This fraud judgment has led to Antony Gordon’s Chapter Seven bankruptcy, which is a straight liquidation.
This (2:13-ap-01536-DS 1568931 Ontario Ltd., an Ontario (Canada Corporati v. Gordon et al) looks like a $9 million dollar fraud judgment in federal court against Rabbi Chanan (Antony) Gordon (an attorney, motivational speaker, and hedge fund manager).
