September 2014 Meeting Minutes, Minneapolis Modern Quilt Guild
The meeting was held on Thursday, September 18, 2014 at the Textile Center at 7 PM. Below is a summary of the meeting.

Announcements: 
1. Garage Sale Results --The August garage sale was a great success. Thanks to Erin and Brianne who did a wonderful job organizing the sale and also to all who donated and shopped. Kristin provided checks to those who sold items. If you were not in attendance to pick up your check or your un-sold items, please contact Tracy or email the guild (minneapolismqg [at] gmail [dot] com). The MplsMQG raised $275 from sale proceeds which will help pay for meeting space, speakers, and events. 

2. Next Sew-cial--
Thursday, September 25th at Common Roots Cafe in South Minneapolis. Bring some hand sewing and visit. Food and beverages are available for purchase.

3. In Town Retreat–
Saturday and Sunday September 27 and 28th at Four Seasons Quilt Shop in Maple Grove. We apologize for the confusion regarding the rates, but initially got some incorrect information. Four Seasons requires a $30 payment no matter how many days you plan on coming (rather than $15/day). They cannot keep track of who’s coming and going and who has paid or not.

4. Next Free Sew-In-
-SATURDAY, October 11th from 1-5 PM at the Roseville Public Library located at Hamline and County Road B. Jan will have materials to make dementia texture blankets and we will also have the Marketplace India Quilt blocks there to sew together for those who volunteered for that.

5. Noodlehead Divided Basket Workshop –
Saturday October 18th, 9 AM-5 PM. Anna Graham of Noodlehead will be hosting a workshop on her Divided Basket Pattern (Advanced Beginner). Cost $35 includes workshop & Pattern / $30 for just the workshop (if you already own the pattern). Come and learn how to make a her divided basket and maybe whip up a few for holiday gift giving. The sign up will be emailed to members shortly after the meeting along with details about supplies, etc.
 

6. November Camp Wapo Retreat – November 21, 22, 23 (Friday-Sunday) near Amery WI $135 for members, $145 for non-members. We have the large building and there will be plenty of room for everyone, and we will also open this up to other local guilds. Sign up sheets were available at the meeting and an online form is available here. See the Retreats page for more information and photos of the site.

7. Next Meeting--
Thursday, October 16, 7 PM Textile Center. Steve Pauling, (aka the Bobbin Doctor)., will give a talk on sewing machine history that will include information on various hook systems and their characteristics, the lure and advantage of using a vintage machine, considerations when purchasing a new plastic mechanical computerized or vintage metal machine, and/or how to identify the type of machine that best fits your personality and sewing needs.
