Saturday book review: Vintage Quilt Revival: 22 Modern Designs for Classic Blocks

I asked for two quilting books for Christmas. One Kristen S. talked about in her blog post, Modern One Block Quilts. The other is Vintage Quilt Revival, which is the one that I am reviewing.

Vintage Quilt Revival is written by some of my favorite quilt bloggers. Katie Clark Blakesley of SwimBikeQuilt, Lee Heinrich of FreshlyPieced, and Faith Jones of FreshLemonsQuilts. I have to admit that I have not made any of the quilts out of this book yet, but many have caught my eye.
Below is one the quilt patterns that caught my eye.

The things that I love about this book is

  • All the blocks that are presented can be swap into a project that corresponds with another block.
  • There are explanations on how the designer made the block modern.
  • The blocks can be made into a sampler quilt and the book presents  three different layouts.
  • There are simple pieced to advanced pieced blocks for the beginner to advanced quilter.

A lot of the block are foundation paper pieced and the book comes with a CD so that you can print the templates instead of trying to copy them off. I love that as I have hard time copying patterns to get them to copy right.

I highly recommend this book, even if just to look at the beautiful quilts.
