Our monthly meeting last Thursday, November 14th covered a lot of events and deadlines. Here is a quick overview:
Our first Quilting Retreat will be held this weekend, November 22-24, 2013 at Camp Wapo in Amery Wisconsin. Registration is closed and I'm sure there will be more information on how this turns out over the next few weeks.
We have been invited to join the Minnesota Contemporary Quilting Guild on their spring retreat at Camp Wapo next March 28-30, 2014. We will pass on more information as we get it from them.
Carrie F from our Charity Committee reviewed the Ronald McDonald Santa
Bag that we can make for their Christmas party that they host for the 43
families that live at the house. The pattern can be found here and is super easy to make. If you can whip one or two up and bring them to the December meeting that would be great.
We are going to do a Mini Quilt Swap with the New York Modern Quilt Guild. The theme is Love and the quilt size is 12 inches, quilted and bound. Flaun is coordinating this and will have a sign up on Facebook.
We discussed having a December Sew-in. Watch the blog and Facebook for more information on the date and location.
The Minneapolis Modern Quilt Banner blocks are due at the January meeting. Please remember to use brights and white for a 6.5" unfinished block of your choice.
We distributed the rest of the Monaluna Meadow Fabric challenge bundles. The challenge theme is "Challenge Yourself" meaning do something that you think is challenging or something that you've always wanted to try. The reveal will be at our March 2014 meeting.
Quilts of Valor information -- please feel free to donate any type of scrap material that you have. It does not have to be red, white or blue. They also will take decent sizes of scrap batting. Stephanie will collect the scraps and donate them to the women that meet in her shop basement monthly and sew the quilts.
Rebecca L. is coordinating the Food Committee and we want to start having snacks and beverages at our monthly meetings starting in January. She will post a sign up sheet on Facebook so we can all take turns supplying some beverages and snacks.
2014 Monthly Mystery Block -- Kristin is going to host a monthly Mystery Block for the first 10 months of 2014. This will take the place of our monthly Block Lottos. She will do blog postings each month for one Mystery Block. We will have the last two months of 2014 to catch up, sew the blocks together and get it quilted for the year end reveal. She will do a blog posting with much more info on this topic in December. Watch Facebook and be sure to keep up with this monthly challenge. You will end up with a quilt and it doesn't get much better than that.
Amanda Jean Nyberg will be hosting a Scrap Management Workshop on February 8, 2014 at the Textile Center. More information on this workshop will be posted on Facebook and blog.
Carrie F from our Charity Committee reviewed the Ronald McDonald Santa Bag that we can make for their Christmas party that they host for the 43 families that live at the house. The pattern can be found here and is super easy to make. If you can whip one or two up and bring them to the December meeting that would be great.
Our December meeting will be a pot luck social. We will post a sign up sheet on Facebook so everyone doesn't bring a plate of cookies! Please remember to bring a zip lock bag of fabric that equals a full yard. We will play a game of "swap" and it can get VERY crazy depending on how awesome some bags of fabric are. We've done this in the past and it is a lot of fun!
Please remember that if you ever have Challenge questions to check the "Challenge/Swap" tab at the top of the blog.
We closed the meeting with Show and Tell and here are the pictures to prove how much we can rock our sewing skills!
